I work as a freelance Textile Designer. I studied Art, Design and Textiles at Winchester School of Art, graduating in 2004 and moved to Ryde on the Isle of Wight in 2005.
My work is an exploration of woven techniques and yarns, traditional and modern. I design unique textiles that have their own individual explanations. They can be for fashion items such as scarves and beach bags, some as art pieces. I take great inspiration from Wassily Kandinsky’s theories about the emotional properties of shape, line and colour.
My experience of travel has given my work a variety of multicultural influences and increases my awareness of recent design trends and developments. The current work for ‘Time and Place’ was inspired by a trip to the Caribbean with its deserted beaches and vibrant craft markets. I find that the natural coastal landscape inspires rhythmical, wave-like themes which create structure and pattern in my collections: the sea, undulating dunes, sand and rock formations.
