Sally Woodford studied 3D Design at Middlesex Polytechnic from 1977-1980. She moved to the Isle of Wight in 1981 and worked with clay until 1987. She began again in her new studio in 2005.

Her latest body of work brings together a lifetime of research and influences from ancient to modern art and culture. This journey of ideas takes inspiration for form and texture from the local beach at Bembridge.

Using hand-building techniques, Sally experiments with the new materials and clays now available. Her work ranges from 10cm clay ‘flints’ to 175cm standing forms, with large bowls formed in plaster moulds made from mooring buoys. Having rekindled her fascination with Raku, the work is Raku, Earthenware or Smoke fired, using wood shavings, seaweed, salt and sand. Some pieces include resin or PMC silver. Each piece made raises questions, inspiring the next by exploring the combination of clay with fire.
