A 2007 graduate of 3 Dimensional Design at Portsmouth University, and living on the Isle of Wight, my inspiration is derived from nature, particularly the continual movement and rhythms of the sea, sky and the seasons. I am influenced by the erosive qualities and sculptural forms of the waves, which together with the elements produce textural surfaces.
I have been captivated by the entrapped remains of prehistoric animals and plants in beach finds. The moulds or traces are often only revealed when rocks disintegrate and the fossils are released from their incarceration. From the outside these rocks are roughly hewn and unremarkable, but inside sculptural forms, crystalline effects or calcification can be impressive. Recent work reflects this.
Future projects will include kiln formed, kiln cast, and sand blasted glass.
