I explore ideas, memory and the imagination, with the colours and textures of fabric, stitch and dye, The rural surroundings of my home near the SW coast of the Isle of Wight, and the cultural heritage of Crete and Morocco, have provided a rich seam of inspiration in my earlier work.
While studying for an MA in 2007/8, a more personal subject matter emerged. Photographs and documents relating to my mother’s life on the Isle of Wight, between the wars, is the framework for my most recent body of work.
Old family photographs, sometimes with faded notes written on the back, or fragments of documents, diary entries and location visits, are steeped in a sense of narrative, time and place. Inkjet and digital print are combined with more traditional methods, to allow a connection with the past, using textile techniques of the future.
