Dawn Campbell has a BA in Design Crafts and an MA in Ceramics. She has worked as a full time freelance artist since 1999 working on education and community projects also private and public commissions around the UK.
Dawn’s work in ceramics and textiles often overlap as in 'Dancing Shoe.' Made from sheets of printed porcelain they are cut, like fabric, and reference a 1920's satin dancing slipper. Dawn’s love of texture and the inherent beauty of things that have been used and loved over time is also present in her textile collages. These are stitched using vintage fabrics and ephemera with family photographs, referencing memories and clothing made, worn, mended and recycled by the generations of women in her extended family.
A range of bowls have been developed to explore the bowl form (base, walls, rim) through both textiles and ceramics, allowing for the transference of techniques from one discipline to another, from coiling clay bowls to working with textile using merino wool coiled and stitched on a sewing machine.
