With an educational background in Fine Arts, I gradually moved into textiles, producing one-off garments for many years. More recently, felt-making has become an important part of my creative work, using it mostly as a pictorial medium. My wall hangings are made of light-weight felted wool fibres incorporating very fine cottons and silks. In recent years I have produced a series of framed landscapes and felted collaged fabrics.
Simple abstract patterns feature in my work, be it stitched textiles, felt, batik or print and collage. The patterned motifs suggest ritualistic imagery of ancient cultures which are enhanced by my taste for earthly, subdued colours. Among my influences are Indian, Asian and African textiles.
Having amassed a wonderful array of fabrics over time, I can now compose complex vintage-style arrangements for either garments or decorative panels. I work slowly and carefully, and consequently produce a select few unique pieces.
